Chicken Soup for the Soul® is hitting the road! The bestselling series which has sold more than 65 million books worldwide and literally transformed the lives of readers from all walks of life, is now seeking stories, poems, quotations, anecdotes and other material appropriate for inclusion in Chicken Soup for the Traveler's Soul®.
What makes a good Chicken Soup for the Traveler's Soul® story?
A "Traveler's Soul" story is an inspirational, true story with a beginning, middle and an end that opens the heart and re-kindles the spirit, whether it's local, national, or international. It makes us all feel more hopeful, more connected, more thankful--more appreciative of travel's ability to enhance, enrich and expand our experience of life. It usually has that poignant "Chicken Soup" emotional moment of greater clarity and understanding.
A "Traveler's Soul" story isn't a sermon, or an essay. It is not a travelogue. It isn't about politics or ultra controversial issues. A "Traveler's Soul" story is an insightful and powerfully-moving work that inspires readers to live more fully, to travel more richly and love others more unconditionally. If you have not read a Chicken Soup for the Soul® book, we highly recommend that you first read one or more in the series to get a clearer idea of the kind of story we are looking for.
Chapter headings include Living Your Dream, Getting There, It's All in the Attitude, Our Common Bond, Making a Difference, People & Places, On Love, A Matter of Perspective, Through the Eyes of a Child, The Kindness of Strangers, The Healing Path, Special Moments, and Wisdom Along the Way.
We prefer that all submissions be made by email to: submissions@travelsoul.com. We ask that each submission be sent in the body of the email (not as an attachment) and that you send a separate email message for each submission. Be sure to put "Traveler's Soul Submission" in the 'Subject' line.
However, if you do not have any access to email, you may send your submissions to: Traveler's Soul Submissions, P.O. Box 292581, Los Angeles, California, U.S.A. 90029. Please include both a hard copy as well an electronic copy on an IBM compatible disc. Be sure to keep a copy of your submission as we are unable to return material.
Stories should be less than 1000 words, typewritten, and in English.
You may make as many submissions as you wish. Please ensure that you include your name, address and telephone number on all correspondence and indicate at the top which of the above topics is most appropriate for your story.
You may submit original unpublished stories or previously published material such as newspaper, newsletter and magazine articles, excerpts from books, online materials, etc. Please indicate if you are the author. If you are not, be sure to provide as much information as possible about the author and the publication in which it appeared.
Our standard rate of payment is $US300 for each story that ends up being published in our book. The book will also contain a short bio on each contributing author. Please be patient as this is a very long selection process.
We hope that contributors also view this as a unique opportunity to raise awareness, share their soulful travel tales, and be a contributing author to a travel book which will reach right into the hearts of people around the world.
